Menil Field Trip

My Group Enjoying Project 4 of 4

Human Composition Part 4 of 4

8 Textures Part 3 of 4

The critique group said I had a very good variety of textures. The sequencing was done well. The book was bound together by tape but it could have been much neater and the overall craft could be improved by making sure all the edges are straight and the pages  exactly the same size.

This was my first project, but I improved it by taking out the crumbed paper at the bottom, making the big squares on the edges straighter and bigger, and lastly fixing the square in the middle so that it resembles my original composition more.

The improved project

The group said that the texture does not conflict and that they harmonize well together.  They liked the way the middle square is floating and that the whole piece on the wall looked like it was floating so elevation was good. The craft could be improved a little bit. They did not like that the middle square was not placed exactly at the middle of the texture so that it looked like it was shining. So that part impacted the project negatively. They could see continuance, closure, and proximity. They thought I chose good materials and that they were appropriate. They craft of the larger squares could be better. The craft of the larger squares hurt the piece because they said they were too large so it does not make a straight edge with the side of the texture paper.

The Exquisite Corpse II

"The beautiful barking pot an awkward pickles"

I thought it would be difficult to find  something that represented  my  sentence, but all of a sudden I had  a picture of a cactus in pot in my head.  The next  problem was where could I go to find a cactus in a pot? Well one sunday after  church I went out to eat at Texas Road House, and while I was waiting for my food, I noticed a lot of cactuses in pots surrounding me! I was so excited I got my camera out and started snapping.

Dots, Dots, Dots! As you can see from the pictures I  changed some of the compositions.    My group went through all my dots and categorized them into the four groups.  For the critique they said that I did not have a very big variety of dots. It was hard for my group to put them into the different categories. Some of the compositions that I put together were not what I indented them to be. For the composition in the first picture on

Newspaper/Cinderblock Experience

The first day of class we dove right in on a quick project! We were given a scenario which led us to build support that could hold up a cinder block. The  only materials we were given and able to move were tape and newspaper. At the end we tested all the newspaper. My newspaper ended up holding the cinder block.  I did not take much time planning what I was going to do, I just came up with ideas as I worked with the materials. My process for making the form of my project was stuffing newspaper into a big sheets of news paper and forming it into the shape I wanted, then stacking them. I added some details to the back to give it a little style. Overall it was a fun experience.
