Module Madness Critique

The class really loved my module madness project. They liked that it looked like the cups were coming out of the wall and the way they curves. Some found it distracting that there was a little gap in the group of cups.

Color and Shape
There is more harmony because  most of the colors repeat and the shapes have the kind of feel to them.

Performance Process & Crit

For my performance, I really did not know what I wanted to do. This was an interesting experience because I never really perform in front of crowds. What I came up with was random, but I wanted it to have meaning behind it and not just do anything. I also wanted to do something that people would not picture me doing.  I thought of many different things such as waking around the square as if it was a tightrope, or looking at the camera as if it was a movie, and eat popcorn. But I think what I chose to do was the right choice. I did not practice really, except for barking like a dog on my hands and knees at my room mate. It scared her a little, which I thought was funny. I just had a vision in my head and went with it. When the class critiqued me they said they liked the way I entered in and flipped my hair. Wearing professional attire was appropriate and the way the clothes fit me, allowed the audience to see my rib cage move when I barked. They mentioned that I really sounded like a dog. They liked that I actually licked water from a bowl and it did not take away from the performance. Also they enjoyed that after I was done acting like a dog, I got up and fixed my hair again as if nothing never happened. Overall this was an experience out of my norm, but it turned out to be successful I think.

Cardboard Critic and Images

For my cardboard project, I have a lot that I could improve upon. My group critiqued  my piece and said that they enjoyed a certain texture that I had on the layers of the acorn. Some of the texture was better than others. My piece had a disconnect from the top where they said it looked like cardboard was just thrown on top and the rest looked like I actually worked on it. A lot of hot glue was showing and it looked a little bit rushed.  Another thing that was wrong with my piece that made it not as  enjoyable was the shape of it. It was suggested that I could have made the acorn more circular.

(playful,periodic)

The group really liked my playful composition on left. They all told me different stories that they thought the composition was trying to tell. They thought I used a good range of square sizes and my white space well.

Week of 9/10 lecture summary on creativity

The question was asked what does a person do when she is being creative/original that distinguishes them from one who is mediocre?

We made a web chart and branched off different ideas from the word creativity. I thought this was a creative way of taking notes from how we normally take down notes. Some ideas that branched off from the word creativity were

  • actually attempts ideas adapt
  • puts whole self into it
  • see beyond, flexibility, perceptive
  • creative action
  • fluency
  • curiosity,questioning attitude, inquisitive nature
  • awareness

Then we talked about distractions...specific creative killers
  • physical-support,safety
  • cultural- taboos,imitate
  • intellectual-mechanical state of mind, lack of background knowedge
  • expressive- inflexibility, lack of information
  • emotional-fear,comfort
  • environment-security, support
why? Things like facebook, the web, and t.v. are a big distractions for me, it happens to me everyday but I feel that I have grown and have not let those things distract me as much as they use to.

There are possible solutions to help these distractions
understand the problem, devise a plan, carry out the plan, revise carry out the an and examine, revise, present

after you realize the problem, you can move towards working out a solution or outcome.

Some methods I will consider when devising a direction for my solution/outcome are
  • Imagine
  • classify
  • relax
  • check
  • list
  • transform
  • test
  • commit
  • adapt
  • repeat

Playful and Periodic

                                            My Top 4 Periodic

To critique my periodic squares I would say some of them look a  little playful and could look more serious. I think I used the white space pretty well in each composition.
